Whilst there can be no doubt that the main spotlight is shone at Sha Tin, that doesn't mean that there aren't top class horses running at Happy Valley and that was certainly true this week. I have posted the results from this weeks 8-race card below, including the time comparisons and speed figures from all of the winners, but there is really only one name that I wanted to add to my tracker and that was Packing Power. A son of Toronado, he is now 2 from 2 for Danny Shum, but he won in the manner of a horse who has a lot more improvement to come and he is clearly better than the class 4 grade that he has been running in so far. Despite being keen in the opening 200-metres, once he dropped his head behind the pacesetting Colonel he ran a fine race and found plenty once hitting the front as they came off the final bend. A speed figure of 95.30 was the best on the card, but it should be noted that he recorded this figure despite being eased in the closing stages. The handicapper has had his say, giving him an 11-point rise to a mark of 71, but he shaped like a horse who could prove to be pattern class in time, in which case his new mark should hold no real fears for his connections. Whether he returns to Happy Valley is open to question, as the more valuable races at Sha Tin will surely be tempting his connections, but either way, I think this was the most exciting performance that I have seen in the first week of the new season and I can't wait to see him again.
