It might still be a little bit too early in the season to be getting seriously excited about the 2025 crop of 2-year-olds, but there is no doubt in my mind that we have seen the best couple of Juvenile prospects so far in the last 48-hours. I’ve already discussed the form of Imperial Me Cen (see related articles) who won the Prix des Reves D’Or at Vichy on Wednesday, but today, No Tune stated her claims to be the best 2-year-old that we have seen so far. This daughter of No Nay Never has now won both starts for Christopher Head and the Wertheimer’s and could not have been more impressive when winning the opening race on today’s card. Here are my notes on the Prix des Closeaux;
PRIX DES CLOSEAUX
Chantilly 16/5/2025 - Souple 3,5
Class 3 Conditions race for 2YOs - 1,200m - €15,000
1:09.56 - Finishing Speed 101.85%
No Tune. Started quickly in 13.11s (ranked 2nd). Sat on the leaders quarters, travelling very strongly in the blinkers. Shaken up by Maxime Guyon with 2-furlongs, has quickened readily to close in 10.95 and 11.81s, both ranked 1st in the field of 6. Winning comfortably by 3-lengths with a top speed of 65.5 km/h. Very hard to knock this form on a form line through the runner-up and looks more than capable of running well in pattern company next time. She holds an entry in the G3 Prix du Bois Longines in 4-weeks time over this course and distance.
Moojeed (2nd) had finished 3rd behind Imperial Me Cen at Deauville. He made the running that day and wandered around when asked for his effort in the closing stages. Ran a much better race today, sitting directly behind the pace. No match for the winner in the last 2-furlongs, closing in 22.98s and he probably isn’t fast enough to give weight to a filly like No Tune over this trip. However, he has looked more than capable of winning a 2YO maiden on both starts to date and should get 7-furlongs and beyond in time.
Graft (3rd) was ahead of Imperial Me Cen last time. Made the running here and broke very well from the stalls, taking 13.00s to reach the first furlong pole. He couldn’t match the winner in the closing stages but has still run well and is another who will win a maiden. The form can be assessed through his performance.
Bullet Ant (4th) will find easier tasks than this debut in the future. Ardad Colt out of a G3 winning sprinter, Ilanga. Interesting starting point for his career. Sat behind the leaders, widest of all. Outpaced, understandably, in the last 500m, but showed some promise.
