And so it begins again.....attached below you will find the French Recruits list for the 2025-26 National Hunt season. I must admit to having less time to spend on this in 2025 and as such, there has not been the usual round of horse profiling in the lead up to this post. However, the list is now at a point where I am happy to publish it. There are 59 names on this year's list and whilst there are still 10-15 that need to be confirmed, the list only contains horses where I have been able to confirm their new connections with either the BHA or HRI registrations. I'm sure there are more exported horses out there (almost certainly in Closutton), but I don't rely on social media for my information and so if I can't be certain, they aren't in this PDF. If time allows, there will be an updated version at the end of October to pick up any late sales and also to cover any recruits from the autumn season at Auteuil.
As with last year, the PDF includes links to the France Galop records on the left-hand side and I have also added some profiles of my own (right-hand column) for some of the more interesting lightly raced ones. I really have no idea what will win the Triumph hurdle this year. Lulamba made his debut in October last season, so it would be foolish to think that we have seen the best of the French 3-year-old crop and the sense that I get from the Spring season at Auteuil is one of confusion. Whilst it was easy to pick out the graded performers, the 3-year-olds seemed to take it in turns to beat each other and having had my fingers burned by the sadly ill-fated Willy de Houelle in 2024/25, I will sit on the fence this year.
Always an appreciated list Adam, being a bit of sad one I just like putting them in the tracker and seeing where they end up, be that Punchestown, Aintree, Ascot or Melbourne it is always interesting to me. All the best for the season ahead.
