Notepad - Vittel 15th Aug

Runners approaching the finish of the Prix Journal Le Cheval, Vittel

Obviosuly, the most important Racing to take place on Thursday came at Deauville. Economics win in the Prix Guillaume D'Ornano was arguably one of the performances of the entire summer and that should be your first point of call for any form study. However, away from the headline acts at Deauville there were some interesting races in the French provinces and the 3 Flat races run at Vittel were the ones to catch my eye. The AQPS Flat races on offer in France can provide so many clues for the future and are always worth taking note of. I would add that both of the races on this card were for Amateur riders, which needs to be allowed for, but both of the winners do have some potential and are worthy of a mention. Here are my notes:

PRIX JOURNAL LE CHEVAL

Amateur Riders race. Liberte D’Esprit pulled clear as they rounded the home turn, keeping on with the far rail to help. She had finished 2nd on her debut at Vichy last month. Lilian finished 8-lengths behind in 2nd placed, but she hung badly (away from the stick) towards the stands side rail. She has run consistently in 4 starts, without significant progression.

PRIX DU CLUB AUTO-RETRO VOSGIEN FICHE COURSE

Amateur Riders race. Exceptionally slow early pace. Race developed into a sprint and whilst Kabriole de Sivola (Pitart, debut win) did well to come out of the pack, she did take the shortest route by staying on the inside rail throughout. Shaped nicely under a hands ride, but would want to see her do it again in a more truly run race. Kelly Baie finished a clear 2nd, but she is now a 9-race maiden, which adds to the doubts over the strength of the form.

PRIX DESTINATION VITTEL CONTREXEVILLE

Debut win for Sinbould (also Pitart), who came clear easily in the home straight. Half-brother to 2 winners. Field of debutantes in the main, so difficult to judge. Rider allowed him to ease up in last 50-yards.
