Punting Blog - Prix Denisy

Aerial view of the Racecourse at Fontainebleau, France

A combination of feeling under the weather and the constant rain leading to heavy ground has tempered my enthusiasm for punting in recent weeks. However, whilst the turf season is winding to a close, there is still come quality Flat racing on the grass in France todays feature race at Fontainebleau, the Listed Prix Denisy, made some appeal. Here are my brief notes and my reasoning for back Measure of Time;

The connections of the Fillies look to be chancing their arm in the hope of landing some Black-Type and even with their sex allowance, both of them have upwards of 10lbs to find on the figures to trouble the principles. Rosir has achieved more than Beauty Approach, but she has been beaten in a lower grade and handicaps recently and didn’t make much appeal at 6/1 (I would have her closer to 16s).

Mirabad is consistent and looks likely to lead, but he had the run of the race in a Class 2 event here last time and couldn’t get home so it is hard to see how he will cope with the rise in class unless he gets a very cute ride in front. Mormona was behind Mirabad on his latest start and there is no obvious reason to see why that form will be reversed.

With the non-runners, this race looks a straight match between Vert Liberte and Measure of Time. Vert Liberte has run with credit in his 2 starts at Paris Longchamp this autumn, including when 5th in the Prix du Cadran behind Trueshan. However, he is 0-9 in France and despite travelling into the race at Longchamp, he ran around under pressure and merely kept on at the one pace in the home straight. I would prefer the market to be the other way round with Measure of Time as Favourite. Although he has finished 6th on his last 2 starts, he has been beaten less than 4-lengths both times and he was given no chance at Saint Cloud last time when he was held up behind a slow pace and despite running a faster final 3-furlongs than the first 3 home he was never able to get on terms. He won here on his debut in 2019 and his best form has come when there has been some cut in the ground. After a light campaign I’d be happy to back him at 2/1 or bigger (currently 5/2).

Advised Selection - Measure of Time (Win, 5/2 generally)
