Cagnes-Sur-Mer 2022

The middle of winter can be a lonely place for fans of Flat racing, with only the all-weather and a few International meetings to alleviate the boredom. That all changes on Monday though, when the Flat season gets underway at Cagnes-Sur-Mer in the south of France. Horses like Raabihah, Port Guillaume and Cheshire Academy have made their debuts during the winter season in the last few years and so with that in mind, I will try to highlight some horses of interest over the next few weeks. We start with an 8-race card this Monday and a pair of newcomers maidens with some nicely bred types for the season ahead.

HAURAN (10:50)

3-year-old Colt trained by Jean-Claude Rouget

Al Shaqab Racing

Al Wukair x Hazely (Cape Cross)

Just the 1 for the tracker on the opening day of the meeting. He has presumably taken some time to come to hand having missed a host of entries as a 2-year-old from May to October last year, but Al Shaqab racing will be hoping that their patience is rewarded when HAURAN makes his debut in the opening race on Monday. He is a half-brother to Mouillage, who won 4 times for the yard in 2020 and 2021, including at Listed level before being sold to the US in November. Cristian Demuro is booked for the ride and so we can assume he is the stables first string and should be ready to make a solid start to his career.
