Colo had finished 8th in a newcomers Flat maiden over 2,400m behind Troubleinparadise last month and given that the latter came down at the 2nd last when quickening to the front, he is far from certain to have reversed that form if it has stood up. Bryony Frost was at pains to nudge the favourite into the bridle, but he did responded as they turned for home and it’s not impossible to think that he would have won. Colo was ridden behind the pace and although he jumped well, he looked to be struggling before the fall at the 2nd last. To be fair to Colo, he did well to avoid the faller in front of him and once shaken up, he responded best of all, despite missing the last flight with a poor stride leading into it. He is a Magneticjim gelding from the family of Balko. Stayed on best of all.

The runner-up, Call Me Queen, had been soundly beaten at Auteuil and Compiegne in the Spring and faded despite jumping the last on terms. Certainly raises some question marks over the form.

The 4th placed Mondoctor Jem was the eye-catcher. Ridden cold and given a lot to do, he made significant headway after the last on the far side. A never-nearer 4th, he should improve for Lageneste & Macaire. A Doctor Dino half-brother to Theleme, this was a relatively quiet place to make his debut, but given the yard’s MO it’s not surprising to see that he is away from Auteuil. One to note with 2026 in mind and probably the best horse in the Prix des Contades field.
