PRIX DE SAINT-BRIEUC
Saint-Brieuc - 5/10/25 - “Souple 3,6”
3YO AQPS - €6050 - 2,400m
2:50.92 (Réduction KM 1:11.21)
Race won by Jade de Grugy on her debut in 2022 (Nothing of that calibre in this race).
Steadily run first circuit that developed into a sprint. The winner, Miss Gibraltar, had finished 4th on debut at Le Mans in September, beaten 11 lengths. Has a very high head carriage at full speed, but showed a willing attitude to go through the gap when it came. Hit the front and then idled. Wore a Tongue-tie. Her Dam won 4 races (3 AQPS).
Meleagrin (2nd) is arguably more interesting here. She finished 3rd in the G3 AQPS at Moulins last month. Given a lot do here but dived forwards in the final furlong and was perhaps an unlucky loser. She is a Silverware filly whose dam was a half-sister to Bleu Et Rouge. Shapes like she will continue to improve and should at least jump a hurdle. Ran on well with the 3rd placed Manon du Mesnil who ran a fine debut for Nicolas Paysan. She is a Goliath du Berlais filly and a half-sister to Gaillard du Mesnil (Willie Mullins). Not really bred for a sharp track like Saint-Brieuc, but showed plenty of speed around the turn and into the latter stages. Should improve and is probably the horse to take from this race as a longer term prospect.
Miss Clovis has finished 4th on her debut having raced prominently with the early leader. She is also by Goliath du Berlais. Plenty of winners on her page without an obvious standout. Despite being well placed she lacked the turn-of-foot needed in the sprint finish but showed some promise. Tongue-tie on for her debut.
My Lady Raiselle led but faded with 300m to run. This was her 4th start. She may well win an AQPS as a 4-year-old, but she looks relatively limited at this stage and her proximity to the principles was probably flattered by the slow pace.
Just 5 lengths covered the first 5.
